LECTURE-ON-DEMAND

Presenter:
Dr. Egon Euwe (bio)

Lecture length:
90 minutes plus interactive Question and answer period

Topic:
Soft Tissue Management During Implant Procedures

Content:
Traditionally implantology has been firmly connected with bone and osseointegration. The role and importance of the soft tissue component was hardly considered. This statement has been turned upside down because of the introduction of GBR in the traditional implant therapy, which was focused on the edentulous patient. In the last decade there has been a change into the direction of the treatment of the partial edentulous patient with a growing interest in dental esthetics. Although the bone remains our soft tissue framework, the quality and quantity of the soft peri-implant tissue became more important now. Advancements in the understanding of the Biological Width underline this importance. Even the soft tissue surface structure, color and three-dimensional shape are today important esthetic parameters for the peri-implant tissues.

Learning Objectives:
The presence of thick keratinized tissue instead of thin oral mucosa, the presence of interdental papillae instead of black triangles between the crowns, are now challenging treatment targets in our effort to obtain an harmonious esthetic result. The lecture will show the application of plastic implant surgical techniques with the following procedures:

  • Preserving the soft tissue after extractions.
  • Recreating thick keratinized tissues in areas with tissue loss.
  • Second stage implant surgery.
  • Pontic site development.
  • Root/Implant -coverage.
