GENERAL ABSTRACT:
The dramatic improvements in the overall population oral health as well as the growing economical potential of many patients have created new demands for the dental profession. Much more emphasis is given today on our smile appearance and despite some substantial differences among countries, religions or races, most of our patients look for whiter, brighter and even anterior teeth. However, much more attention is given today to the preservation of healthy tissues, what has rejuvenated conservative procedures such as bleaching, microabrasion and free-hand bonding.
Composite resin restorations offer today conservative, biological and aesthetic solutions to many problems, which formerly could only be approached by expensive and more invasive ceramic restorations. However, composite systems are based on different layering concepts and as a consequence, the restoration esthetic potential is strictly linked to a perfect understanding of the shading concept and optical properties of the composite masses in relation with those of natural tissues. Based on a thorough observation of natural esthetics and the application of the so-called "natural layering", together with an appropriate selection of composite brands, the clinicians can produce beautiful, natural like direct composite restorations.

LECTURE CONTENT:
The lecture program will cover treatment rationale and integration of direct composites and other conservative techniques such as recontouring, bleaching and microabrasion in a comprehensive approach to dental aesthetics. Bio-mechanical aspects of different restoration types will also be discussed in the perspective of long-term clinical behaviour. A detailed description of clinical procedures with ample clinical documentation and high-magnification video footage will complete the program and provide attendees with the full topic picture.

WORKSHOP CONTENT:
  • The Natural layering concept
  • Shade selection
  • Margin design
  • Build-up techniques according to cavity configuration
  • Matrix selection & proximal shaping
  • Advanced finishing & polishing techniques for enhanced aesthetics
